




NBCUniversal announced that Sci Fi was rebranding as "Syfy". Network officials also noted that, unlike the generic term "sci fi", which represents the entire genre, the term "Syfy" as a sensational spelling can be protected by trademark and therefore would be easier to market on other goods or services without fear of confusion with other companies' products. NBC Universal needed logo animation that would resonate with current generational viewers and still connect with a new younger base. Our team created style frames that drew inspiration from the 80s cartoon "The Jetsons" using them as conduit to usher in the new logo identity. The team first acquired model sheets to create the 3D models. To achieve its look, an ambient occlusion shader was used in final render from Maya. Those renders were composited with other renders to complete the look. All frames were compiled in After Effects for final export.
